Blank & Jones // Mark Reeder - Reordered
Reordered - That’s the name of one of 2009’s most interesting and unique records. On the face of it, it may seem like just another collaboration album. A bunch of songs remixed to squeeze every last drop of sale’s potential out of something which has been on the market for months. But that’s not the case here. It’s not a covers album, it’s not a remix album. So what is it? Well, we’ll come to that in a moment. First, consider the calibre of the artists involved with this record. No, not the guest vocalists – although the presence of The Cure’s Robert Smith, New Order’s Bernard Sumner and Anne Clark to name but a handful should already excite enough interest – the people behind the album. Blank & Jones – and Mark Reeder.

Mark Reeder. Described in a recent Smirnoff Wall of Sound documentary as the „Godfather of the Berlin club scene“, Mark has turned his hand to pretty much every music industry job going. From humble beginnings working in Manchester’s Virgin Records he was there at the very beginning of what became known as the „Madchester“ movement and his association with Tony Wilson led to him being Factory Records’ „Man in Germany“ after his move to Berlin in 1978. In the thick of the Berliner Krankheit movement – which spawned Einstürzende Neubauten and Die Ärzte among others – he played with his band Die Unbekannten and co-managed all-girl no wave line-up Malaria! He remains the only ever Brit to be invited into Communist East Germany to produce an album there (the results being Torture by Die Vision in 1989) which led to his founding the first ever electronic dance music label, MFS, amid the wreckage of what was once Amiga, East Germany’s state-owned imprint. Amid extensive touring and remix and production duties, Mark even found time to discover and build up superstar DJ Paul van Dyk for international superstardom. Oh yeah, and he’s remixed Anne Clark, Pet Shop Boys and Die Toten Hosen (among others) along the way. And so the story shifts to re-ordered. So what exactly is it? Mark: „ Reordered could probably best be described as a re-works album as I’ve taken each track and basically rewritten and reworked the music and added my own sound imprint. It was decided to make it in a style reminiscent of the 80’s and I produced it in exactly the same way as I had made music back then; using very few instruments, real synths and guitars. I wanted Reordered to have a different sound to anything Blank & Jones had done before and to touch territory they wouldn’t normally visit.“ Mark has taken all the previously released „songs“ – ie. vocal tracks – from Blank & Jones’ previous output and transformed them into something befitting a musician who cut his musical teeth in the 1980s. Working together with his long-time studio engineer and collaborator Micha Adam, formerly of the techno project House of Usher, they'e come up with an LP worthy of being the debut release on a new label; so80s, a sub-label of Blank & Jones' regular imprint Soundcolours. The record is down-tempo, introverted, one might even say dark. It’s not a happy album and not geared for the dancefloor; but it’s nevertheless an engaging place to be, highly atmospheric and the re-interprations so well done that each cut sounds completely different from the original. It’s a measured, creeping album; its smoky fingers drifting into your mind, carressing your ear drums and making the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. A magical record in fact. Mark’s arranging and production credentials were never in any doubt; his major achievement here lies in the fact that he has created a solid, credible concept record which, to be blunt, has been patched together from a random selection of someone else’s tracks. And it works. One artist provided the foundation, another built on tis with talented hands; the results are evidence of what can occur when two highly talented artists go head to head.

Mike Francis 1961-2009
On friday january 30, 2009 our dear friend and fantastic musician/ singer Francesco Puccioni, also known as Mike Francis, passed away after a long illness. Francesco was not only a singer that we worked with on various projects, he was also one of our greatest inspirations when we grew up in the 80ies and discoverd his fantastic songs. It was a dream come true for us when we had the first contact with him a few years back. When we worked on our first collaboration in 2005 for "Someone Like You", we felt like the most blessed guys to have him behind the mic. Beside that he was a musical genius, he was also one of the friendliest and most unshelfish persons we have ever met in our lifes. He was so warm and gentle and it always came from his heart.
You will be missed.

BIG WORLD TOUR FINAL OF "THE LOGIC OF PLEASURE" TOUR in HOLLYWOOD, L.A.
wow, what a party! we still can't belive what a great final show we celebrated with you last saturday in los angeles. it was truely a great year for us and our album release tour brought us to so many great places and partys in the whole wide world. last weekend we finished this amazing tour in california. warming up in anaheim's heat ultra lounge, getting it started in san diego's spin club, and then raise the roof at vanguard, hoolywood's best nightclub, with the GIANT crew! we would like to take this opportunity and thank you very much for your support around the globe for the past 12 months. here are some impressions which we filmed ourselfes, and some pics by courtesey of ruke.com. enjoy it and see you in 2009 with Blank & Jones' very own "Posh Trance" and the "Relax" series to continue..... Posh Trance (Compiled & Mixed by Blank + Jones)
After Blank + Jones have travelled around the globe 4 times this year during their "Logic Of Pleasure World Tour", they now give you a fantastic tour souvenir to end this great 2008. Posh Trance was mixed and compiled by the two boys from Cologne, Germany during the last weeks while finishing the last dates of the tour.

This mini mix gives a perfect overview of their current sound in the clubs and also reviews the highlights of the tour. Of course it is mixed, mashed and squenced in the very own Blank + Jones style. This album get's released just in time for the big tour final which is taking place in Hollywood's legendary GIANT club on december 13th. No matter where Blank + Jones have played this year, from Europe to Asia and America, their incredible way to perform combined with the outstanding sound and new visual concept designed by Paul Morley, took the venues by storm.

With this album they once more prove that they go far beyond the regular "DJ performance" and include all their technical toys in this mix. Beside two remixed versions of the stunning "Logic Of Pleasure" album Blank + Jones present some exclusive tunes from fellow friends like Martin Roth, newcomers Audionatica and also San Francisco's very own Björn Niclas. There comes the summer. well at least in australia. while in most parts of the world the winter is just around the corner, on the other side of the world people are getting ready for that beautiful part of the year. as miracle cure was a favourite all over europe during the summer it seems just logical that the release in australia was moved to november so everyone could enjoy the fantastic tune in the sun over there as well. now, with exclusive new mixes, the firts results are amazing. this week blank + jones enter the official australian dance charts with the highest entry. of course we will make the new funky electro mixes also available worldwide in your favourite download shop soon, so stay tuned!

finally the wait is over! unbelievable, it´s really now 4 years since the release of our last full album "monument". but we promise, this spring the wait is over. we are ready to release a new album and single. thank you for your patience, we hope that we can reward you with an amazing new trip into sound. of course we invited some very fine guests to join us in the studio. we will present the new single at this years annual MIDEM conference in Cannes (France) together with our fantastic guest vocalist at the end of january. we also have the first dates for an early preview of the album blocked in 2 of our north american homebases: on the easter wekend we will play in San Francisco´s RUBY SKYE and on the saturday in Chicago´s VISION (march 20/21). the following week we will hang out (as everybody else) in Miami for Winter Music Conference. shows in Miami tba soon. stay tuned
